Media Release - Managing Your Onlne Presence - Internet Safety, Educational Workshops for Students and Parents
MEDIA RELEASE
November 8, 2012
Managing Your on Line Presence
Education and Awareness sessions will be provided to students and parents of Summerside Intermediate, Athena, Miscouche, Kensington and Kinkora on Safety on the Internet.
Students will be given sessions on “safe usage on social media sites” relating to
* how to create positive relationships, experiences and digital footprints,
* how to protect their identity, reputation and image ,
* how to protect themselves from online predators and bullying,
* using social media for good, impacting self image, strengthening safety,
These workshops will be offered through the day to the students
Parents will have evening workshops on :
* how to protect and monitor social media sites
* safety controls
* privacy settings
* legal issues
* establishing rules
* family safe centres
Booklets/resources will be provided .
The first parent session will be offered on Tuesday, November 13 at 6:30PM at Athena and will be for parents of SIS and Athena.
Somerset School in Kinkora will be Monday, Nov.19 at 6:30PM
Miscouche Consolidated will be Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 6:30PM
Kensington is TBA
The Sessions will be provided by Sweet Spot Marketing.
The week of November 12-17 is Anti- Bullying Week and there will be a presentation by BullyTag ( www.bullytag.com ) during the sessions.
